Greece

Crete, September 2012

Accommodations

  • Aquila Porto Rethymnon: 5-star hotel located on the Rethymnon beach promenade. When I first arrived here, I was alerted to the fact that they had overbooked their rooms accidentally and had to put me up in a different hotel for the first night and then move me back. It was frustrating but, it happens and I will say the service here from front to back was top notch. I was unfortunately quite ill during my stay in Crete and the staff was nothing but helpful. When I was transferred back I was upgraded to an ocean front room and they assisted me in arranging for medical care, getting a doctor, going to the hospital and even working with my limited food options. I could only attempt to eat dry cereal at one point and so they brought me 4 bowls of different cereals. They were amazing. The rooms themselves I think could use a facelift just because the decor is a bit dated in my opinion but an ocean front room was killer. They have plenty of chairs on their beachfront, it was quite beautiful.

Sites/Tours

  • Unfortunately I was ill and almost completely stuck in bed this trip so I can't personally recommend things to see on this beautiful island. That said, while I was at the hospital I ended up in a conversation with a visitor of another patient and he said there were some amazing waterfalls nearby to visit, so I have that on my to-do for the time i can revisit Crete. If you go before me, let me know it is!
